FOMO Sonar: A Start-Up with Great Potential – Ben Goodman @good_benji

On April 9th we had three speakers come in to talk to us about their start-up, FOMO Media.  This Portland based group recently launched their first product FOMO Sonar.  Currently, it is available on both the Android and IOS platforms making it available to nearly everyone that is using a smartphone.  According to ComScore, about half of America owns a smartphone with 90% of them being Google or Apple phones.

FOMO Sonar is a product that allows your phone’s GPS to connect you with deals happening around your location.  As you get close to a business, a notification pops up on your phone that tells you what the business is currently offereing.  This helps the business entice you to come in and also allows the business to show its appreciation for its customers. 

 

Integrated into their software are analytical tools that are very useful for the business.  This data helps the business know exactly what type of customer frequents their business.  Whether they are male or female, young or old, these analytics can help the individual business tailor new deals or even their ambiance to that particular demographic that frequent their business the most.

 

In addition to this, the user is able to enable a personal ping through the app.  This allows the user’s friends to see where they currently are.  Not only is this a cool feature to see what your friends are up to, but it brings more customers to businesses even when the customer isn’t within the range of the business’s “sonar.”

So far this app has received amazing reviews from the consumers, and best of all it is FREE!

 

In addition to the great reviews on the Apple Store, our Marketing class really enjoyed their talk and thought they had a great product @MKTG435.

 

As a whole we learned some great things from FOMO Media’s talk.  One major takeaway was that one customer can cause your business to boom, in their case it was partnering up with Snowball Festival in Colorado.  With this partnership we will see many more opportunities for FOMO Media.
